In the final lesson of Chapter 10, students focused their learning of temperature and volume back on the concept of weather as it relates to warm and cold fronts and the formation of clouds. We worked through the ChemCatalyst in the Lesson 55 PowerPoint and then watched a clip of Kenvin Delaney, Jimmy Fallon, and Lucy Liu experiment with matter of different densities:
Students then worked through the Lesson 55 Worksheet which calls for them to reference the Weather Variables worksheet from Lesson 49. For homework, students were assigned textbook questions 1, 3, 4, and 5.
Students continued their learning about density by working through the ChemCatalyst starter activity included in the Lesson 51 PowerPoint and then working in small groups to complete the Lesson 51 Worksheet. Textbook questions 7-9 were assigned as homework.
Chapter 1 concluded with a multiple choice quiz. Students then had the remainder of the class period to complete any unfinished work. The last five minutes featured Kevin Delaney performing density-related science experiments on the Jimmy Fallon Show:
Busy day today! Because of the fire drill yesterday, students used the first few minutes of class to collect data for the lab portion of the Lesson 4 worksheet. They then finished the worksheet and answered the Lesson 4 questions (#1-11) from page 16 of the textbook. Finally, students were assigned the Lesson 5 worksheet and questions #1-7 on page 20 of the textbook (we did not cover the Lesson 5 PowerPoint but the content is covered in the textbook). In preparation for the Chapter 1 quiz tomorrow, students are encouraged to review questions #1-6 on page 21 of the textbook and to work through the Chapter 1 practice quiz.
